Cheryl Janey is a retired corporate executive. She now serves as a consultant, advisor and board member dedicated to helping individuals and businesses specializing in connecting business development and communications to achieve strategic growth in organizations and inspire teams to truly soar.
Ms. Janey’s career includes over 30 years of industry and leadership experience. Prior to her retirement in 2016, she served as vice president of Communications for Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems (IS) sector. In this role, she led the sector’s integrated communications activities, which include strategic communications and outreach, public and media relations and marketing communications, as well as internal and executive communications. Prior to that she served as vice president, Operations, in the IS sector’s Civil Systems division, where she was responsible for helping achieve the division’s financial growth and operational objectives and for ensuring organizational alignment.
Previously, Ms. Janey was president of Civil Programs for Harris Corporation. In this capacity, she successfully grew the Civil Programs organization by supporting customer agencies and programs that included the Military Health System, the Census Bureau and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Janey held leadership positions at Northrop Grumman’s former Information Technology sector, including vice president, Marketing and Business Development with the Commercial, State and Local business group and vice president, State and Local Solutions operating unit. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, she held leadership positions at American Management Systems (now CGI Federal), Unisys Corporation, SCT Corporation and IBM Corporation.
Active in the community, Ms. Janey served on the board of the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia (2014-2023) where she chaired the Marketing Committee and was a member of the Executive Committee. She is currently on the board of the Northern Virginia Science Center Foundation, which has recently broken ground, building a world class science center in Loudoun County, Virginia. Additionally, she is a past member of the D.C. Advisory Board of The Posse Foundation.
Ms. Janey is a recipient of many awards and recognitions, including a 2014 feature by Savoy Magazine as one of the Top Influential Women in Corporate America and the Career Communications Group’s Women of Color Technology and Business President’s Award, an honor given for high merit of significant value across many disciplines.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in design from Carnegie Mellon University and has done postgraduate study at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business, the Darden School of the University of Virginia and the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
