WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan coalition of 150,000 veterans, students, and citizens today endorsed Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) for reelection in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, citing his defense of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), advocacy for humanitarian assistance, and leadership in protecting Congress's constitutional authority over federal spending.

As Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, Raskin has challenged efforts to dismantle USAID and withhold congressionally approved foreign-assistance funding. In February 2025, he joined congressional colleagues outside USAID headquarters to oppose the agency's closure, highlighting the importance of programs addressing HIV/AIDS, malaria, hunger, and global health. He subsequently co-led a congressional legal brief arguing that the administration's actions violated Congress's constitutional spending authority.

Raskin's leadership holds vital importance for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, home to many federal employees, development experts, and humanitarian organizations. He has consistently championed his constituents and highlighted how foreign-aid disruptions jeopardize both local livelihoods and vital international relief efforts.

In June 2026, Raskin joined A4AL's inaugural Hill Day press conference at the U.S. Capitol alongside Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), James Walkinshaw (D-Va.), and Herb Conaway (D-N.J.). This bipartisan effort capped two days of intensive advocacy, where 120 participants met with 92 congressional offices to push for the release of crucial, previously approved foreign-assistance funding.

“We hold the power of the purse and a Congressional appropriation is a federal law,” Raskin said during the A4AL event, emphasizing the administration's obligation to carry out funding decisions enacted by Congress.

“Congressman Raskin has been a prominent voice defending the institutions, professionals, and humanitarian programs that sustain American leadership abroad,” said Asher Moss, founder and executive director of the Alliance for American Leadership. “His commitment to protecting USAID, upholding Congress's constitutional authority, and standing alongside our bipartisan coalition demonstrates the importance of safeguarding effective diplomacy and development. His participation in our Hill Day reflected a shared commitment to ensuring that lifesaving foreign assistance reaches the communities Congress intended it to serve.”
