WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan coalition of 150,000 veterans, students, and citizens today endorsed Congressman Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) for reelection in Maryland's 7th Congressional District, citing his leadership in defending the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), protecting congressionally authorized foreign assistance, and advancing American commitments to human rights, democracy, and international cooperation.
Representing Baltimore, Mfume brings decades of leadership and civil rights advocacy to his work in Congress. First elected in 1986, he returned to the House in 2020 and serves on the Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees. On Foreign Affairs, Mfume has actively defended USAID, opposing efforts to dismantle the agency or cut foreign assistance, arguing that such actions harm global stability and American interests.
“As a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am calling on President Trump and his Secretary of State Marco Rubio to cease this foolishness and obey the law,” Mfume said in a February 2025 statement opposing the dismantling of USAID.
Mfume's work on the Foreign Affairs Committee reflects his broader belief that American leadership requires sustained engagement with international partners and a commitment to democratic principles. Upon joining the committee in 2023, he emphasized the importance of responding to an evolving international landscape with principled leadership.
