WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan coalition of 150,000 veterans, students, and citizens, today endorsed Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.) for reelection in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, citing his leadership in Congress defending U.S. foreign assistance, supporting the restoration of USAID, protecting America's international development capacity, and connecting American humanitarian leadership to national security and economic interests at home.
As Ranking Member of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs, Subramanyam oversees U.S. national security and foreign policy institutions. In his A4AL endorsement questionnaire, he committed to publicly advocating for the restoration of USAID and voting for robust agency funding.
“Foreign assistance is a cornerstone of U.S. soft power that keeps Americans safer and healthier,” Subramanyam wrote. “I support funding these critical programs and will fight in Congress to restore USAID.”
Subramanyam has backed these commitments with action, proposing an appropriations amendment to block funding until USAID is reopened and highlighting how development work stabilizes regions to save lives and taxpayer dollars.
His legislative efforts also focus on improving international emergency response and visa processing for Americans abroad. Additionally, he supports bipartisan efforts to strengthen humanitarian assistance, expand climate adaptation and resilience programs, and empower local communities through more effective, accountable international development initiatives.
“Congressman Subramanyam understands that foreign assistance isn't something that happens only thousands of miles away—it directly affects American national security, our economy, and communities like Northern Virginia,” said Asher Moss, founder and executive director of the Alliance for American Leadership. “Suhas has used his position in Congress to defend USAID, demand accountability over American foreign policy, and make the case that diplomacy and development keep Americans safer while preventing far more expensive crises. A4AL is proud to endorse him for reelection and stand behind his work to rebuild American leadership.”
