WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan coalition of 150,000 veterans, students, and citizens today endorsed Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) for reelection in Minnesota’s 4th Congressional District, citing her longstanding leadership on global health, international food security, and the protection of lifesaving foreign-assistance programs.

As Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee and co-chair of the Congressional Global Health Caucus, McCollum champions international development, global health, and hunger relief. She authored the bipartisan Global Food Security Reauthorization Act of 2022 to extend USAID’s Feed the Future program, strengthening food systems and building resilient communities worldwide.

“The ongoing U.S. commitment to expand food production while fighting malnutrition and poverty in the world’s poorest countries is absolutely critical to our national security interests,” McCollum said in a statement accompanying the legislation.

McCollum has consistently defended USAID and international assistance against funding cuts and restructuring efforts, voting against the Rescissions Act of 2025 and opposing the fiscal year 2027 State and Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

She warned that proposed reductions, including $532 million from global health programs would undermine public health, increase global instability, and weaken American leadership abroad.

“Congresswoman McCollum has spent decades demonstrating that global health, food security, and humanitarian assistance are essential components of American leadership,” said Asher Moss, founder and executive director of the Alliance for American Leadership. “Her bipartisan work on Feed the Future, her defense of USAID, and her commitment to protecting international development programs reflect the importance of sustained American engagement abroad. Her leadership connects our humanitarian responsibilities with the practical national-security benefits of preventing hunger, disease, and instability.”
