WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan coalition of 150,000 veterans, students, and citizens today endorsed Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) for reelection in New Mexico's 1st Congressional District, citing her leadership in defending the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), protecting foreign-assistance programs, and advancing policies that strengthen international security, food security, and American global leadership.
Representing Albuquerque since 2021, Stansbury is a former White House OMB budget examiner who serves on the House Oversight and Natural Resources Committees. As Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, she has been a leading voice defending foreign assistance. In February 2025, she spearheaded House Democrats' response against dismantling USAID, highlighting its critical role in advancing national security, preventing humanitarian crises, and countering authoritarian influence.
Stansbury consistently opposed foreign aid cuts, including voting against the 2025 Rescissions Act and fiscal year 2027 appropriations, warning that reducing American assistance risks allowing rivals like Russia and China to expand global influence.
“For a fraction of the cost of defense and weapons, the U.S. is able to help promote national security, stop global pandemics, prevent hunger and mass migrations, and make the world and America a safer and more stable place,” Stansbury said during the February 2025 hearing.
