Buildings and locations across the country are turning their exterior lights red, white and blue on November 3 for A4AL’s first “Lights on for USAID” campaign. This campaign will show support for American democracy as well as the American values of generosity, expertise, and cooperation that U.S. foreign aid demonstrated around the world.
November 3 is both Election Day and the 65th birthday of the United States Agency for International Development. USAID was America’s primary agency for delivering foreign assistance, and the largest of its kind in the world. USAID’s programs saved up to 4 million lives every year until it was shut down in 2025.
So far, locations from New York to California and in between have pledged to turn their external lighting displays red, white, and blue on the evening of November 3 to show their support for USAID, American democracy, and American values.
A4AL interns and volunteers have already reached out to more than 100 locations asking them to be a part of Lights on for USAID, with the hopes of getting as many locations as possible on board with the campaign. These locations include iconic landmarks like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Niagara Falls, as well as smaller locales such as town halls, museums, airports, and civic centers.
Want to support A4AL and have us invite a location you enjoy to be part of Lights on for USAID? Donate here and make a note in the comment section for any location you want us to contact, or for a city, county, or state you’d like us to reach out to in your name.
For every donation of $25 or more we’ll reach out to a location of your choosing.
“Foreign assistance saves lives, supports democracy around the world, counters the influence of countries like China and Russia, and makes America safer, more secure, and more prosperous,” said Asher Moss, founder and executive director of Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL). “I can’t think of a more American value than that.”
Participating locations so far include:
Yonkers City Hall Clock Tower - Yonkers, New York
Letter “M” on Box Springs Mountain - Moreno Valley, California
Manchester Clock Tower - Manchester, New Hampshire
Capella Tower, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Milwaukee County Historical Society - Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Fountain at Hillcrest Park - Fullerton, California
